On Tuesday the 4 May, we travelled to the Perth Hills Discovery Centre in Mundaring. Here we studied the causes and impacts of bushfires on the natural and human environment. The excursion was an eye opener for our class as we were able to visit a recent bushfire zone and complete fieldwork activities to properly understand how these fires have major impacts upon their surrounds.
Our guide, Peter, helped us through the activities of the day, teaching us how to be safe in the event of a bushfire as well as strategies to prevent and/or mitigate their future impacts. The fieldwork we undertook helped us deepen our understanding of the environment around us and how bushfires can impact our local ecosystems.
