Mr Williams and Mr Good’s Year 7 computing class were introduced to the wonderful – and often misunderstood – world of programming and algorithms this term.
Students were introduced to a Micro:bit – a pocket-sized microcomputer created by one of the UK’s largest media organizations – the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
The micro-bit is a fun and innovative way to introduce to students the importance of flow charts, logic and planning to undertake specific tasks and solve problems performed by a computer. Students were tasked to design their own virtual pet out of basic household materials and then program their pet to display distinctive emotions, sounds and behaviour – with the Micro:bit commonly incorporated as the ‘face’ of the pet.
Congratulations to all students for planning, designing and coding their pets. As the pictures demonstrate – the classroom became a virtual menagerie of sights and sounds.
