Year 8 Retreat
Seeking more knowledge, a deeper understanding, and a stronger connection for our students set the path for what has been two exciting days of Christian Service Learning and Retreat this week.
As a culmination of our Year 8 Religious Education program, our students learnt about the Four Harmonies and how we can seek to bring about these in our own lives.
‘Harmony with ourselves and God’ was a day packed with drama, games, great stories and reflections as students deepened their relationship with Jesus through the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Students spent the morning with Whadjuk Noongar leader and Indigenous Consultant Mr Sean Nannup and his two nephews, Dillon and Jayden, exploring how we can grow greater connections with God’s creation and our brothers and sisters.
Growing a deeper understanding of Traditional Owners and their cultural connection to country as ongoing custodians, students learnt traditions in music, dance, story and art to support their ongoing development as respectful young men and women.
After morning tea, students learned about the confronting statistics revealing the inequities people experience in the world and then put their final touches to their Religious Education assignments. The RE program provided the students with the opportunity to research and present how God’s State of original Justice might be restored between ourselves, others and creation.
In the afternoon, our students used their assignment to conduct a short one-to-one lesson with a visiting primary school student from St Lawrence, Balcatta, St Denis, Joondanna or Our Lady of Lourdes, Nollamara.

Our Justice Day was eye opening. Sean Nannup and the traditional dancing was a highlight for me. I learnt so much about Aboriginal culture and working with the Year 6 students from St Lawrence was amazing.

The retreat has been a new and interesting experience. Today has helped me know more about myself and my relationship with God. What a great day!
