During our Pastoral Care program this term, Year 9 students have completed activities designed to assist students in developing their resilience and self-regulation skills as lifelong learners. Boys and girls have moved through a rotation of meditation, yoga and self-defence sessions, covering a range of techniques to reduce stress and anxiety, while building self-esteem and confidence.
Mr Dean Robinett
Head of Community ‑ San Clemente Priory
The meditation session was run by Ms Beatty, who taught us how to feel comfortable, relaxed and stress-free. I feel like this activity was a good idea for the Year 9 girls to take part in as it allowed us to find ways of being able to calm ourselves down in stressful times.
Taiya Leone (SE1)
The self defence we did was very engaging, interesting and informative. Everyone had a lot of fun and learnt some valuable self defence information. The demonstrations provided by Mr Morrison and Mr Stanbury were a fun and yet terrifying display of how self defence can be used.
Daniel Pham (SC4)
I learnt that meditation isn’t just sitting down and listening to music, it is finding the right head space and slowing your mind down. We also learnt that there are many different ways to meditate and various ways work for different people. I found the meditation session very relaxing and thought that it was a good way to calm myself and clear my mind.
Rani Tsolakis (SC6)
Year 9 boys were taught the art of self defence by Mr Morrison and Mr Stanbury. We covered a few basic ways to defend ourselves if we are to ever encounter a dangerous situation. This was an enjoyable lesson as we got to practice and learn new skills.
