iServi News | 6 December 2019 | Term 4, Week 8
Each year, Servite College students and their families generously support the St Vincent de Paul Society who work tirelessly to help people in our community who are facing hardships. As part of our ongoing support, we are asking the Servite community to donate gifts of non-perishable food items to the 2019 Vinnies Christmas Appeal.
Each Homeroom has a shopping basket we hope to fill with goodies that would bring a little Christmas cheer into the lives of a family in need. Students are asked to bring along items that Vinnies can pack into hampers for local families.
The Homeroom Teachers are supporting the Year Seven Student in each Homeroom who are driving this Appeal. To kick-start the appeal, the Year Seven students have already generously brought at least one tinned food item each.
So that we receive a good spread of items, the following distribution has been suggested:
YEAR | ITEMS |
7 | Christmas Pudding, Christmas Cake, Long-Life Custard, Tinned Fruit, Bon Bons, Fruit Mince Pies, Shortbread, Panettoni etc |
8 | Roasted Nuts, Dried Fruit, Candy Canes, Confectionery, Muesli Bars, Savoury Biscuits, Sweet Biscuits, Condiments: Tomato Sauce, Mayonnaise, Mustard etc |
9 | Tea, Coffee, Sugar, Milo, Long-Life Milk, Soft Drink, Cordial, Long-Life Juice, Rice, Noodles, Cereals etc |
10 | Ring-pull Tinned – Vegetables (eg corn, peas), Fruit, Beans, Vegetables, Tuna or Soup,
Pasta & Pasta Sauce, Jelly, Pancake Mix, Spreads: Honey, Jam, Vegemite etc |
* Please ensure all items have not been opened, have long expiry dates and are non-perishable.
Extras for anybody: Christmas Napkins, Christmas Plates, Christmas Tablecloths, Christmas Decorations
What about the ham or turkey? We can only collect non-perishables, but if your Homeroom wants to donate a ham or turkey to a family in addition to the hamper, you may take up a collection or hold a fundraiser and donate a gift card so the family can purchase one with dignity.
St Vincent De Paul representatives will visit the College to collect the gifts of food and will then start packing hampers for distribution. So, we need all donations in by Monday 9 December please.
In the past we have been overwhelmed by your generosity for this charity, particularly at Christmas time. What an easy way to bring a little joy to others. We thank you in advance for your support of this initiative.
