Dear Parents and Guardians

Welcome to Week 4

Exams

Examinations are an important part of the learning process for our students. The examination period for our Year 11 and 12 students is scheduled to commence on Monday 29 May, whilst Year 10 students will sit their exams from 19 June.

Exams can be a somewhat stressful time for students but they also provide an excellent opportunity for students to display their learning. They can also be utilised as a genuinely effective tool for future learning. Exams are based on the core syllabus of each course and help hone student skills and knowledge for consistent improvement in assessments of this type.

2017 Melbourne Art and Culture Tour

It was early Saturday morning on 8 April, when 24 Arts students eagerly waited to board the plane to Melbourne. For many of us it was our first time in Melbourne and for some, their first time on a plane. Everything was bigger and busier in Melbourne. Our humble Hay Street mall was dwarfed by the big and seemingly endless CBD, that you could spend weeks exploring. However, we didn't have weeks, we had just one jam packed incredible week which I can safely say was a week we will never forget.

The Cultural tour began at the MCG watching a game of AFL where we were fortunate enough to sit in the 2nd row. This allowed us to not only have an excellent view of the game but also of the injured players getting their heads 'glued' up before heading back onto the field.

Drama Excursion

On Wednesday 26 April the Year 11 and 12 Drama ATAR students went on an excursion to the Heath Ledger Theatre to see a Black Swan Theatre production of Michael Gow's 'Once In Royal David's City'. The masterful play followed a Bertolt Brecht-obsessed director and the relationship he has with his mother, his art and the world around him.

The play was spectacular! We particularly loved the stage design and the flawless and inventive transition of scenes. The play heavily referenced practitioner Bertolt Brecht which was particularly relevant to us as we study his theories as a part of our course.

Thanks to Mrs Fitzsimmons and Mrs Navarro for organising this special treat and a very special mention to Alena Tompkins at Black Swan Theatre Company for the complimentary tickets.
