Road Safety
The safety of children travelling to and from school is a priority for the whole community.
Road safety incidents serve as a good reminder that parents, students and staff are to always be observant of road safety procedures, road rules and road signage around the College, especially during pickup and drop off times.
Below are links to excellent sites that outline best road safety practices. Could I please ask that parents, students and teachers please visit these sites and discuss with the child/student the importance of road safety.
Student Leadership
This week I had the pleasure of visiting our 2020 College leaders at their Leadership Camp. It’s important for students to experience leadership opportunities during their schooling, to learn the art of building relationships within teams, defining identities and achieving tasks effectively. It also provides an opportunity to learn to identify and display effective communication and interpersonal skills.
It is not enough for a student to decide that they want to be a leader. The making of a good leader is not something that is inherited. The camp enabled our student leaders to work on their leadership skills such as:
- Communication skills
- Decision-making skills
- Organising skills
- Action planning and
- Strategic thinking
I believe that next year’s leaders will make an enormous impact on our student community and look forward to working with them. I would like to thank Mr John Power and Ms Alice Potter for attending the Camp with our Students.
P&F Parent Thank You Function
This week saw our final meeting for the Servite Parents and Friends this year. Outgoing President Mrs Tania Cleverly provided the President’s report and tabled the financial report for 2019.
I offer my deepest thanks to our current Parents and Friends Executive, Mrs Tania Cleverly, Mrs Margaret Diodato and Mrs Maria Carlino who have been exceptionally generous with their time and energy in leading the P&F. Their team has modeled the true essence of the Servite Spirit and I will reflect on this further in my article next week.
Our current Servite Parents and Friends Executive has been integral in the development of the new Servite Parent Forum structure that will be in place for 2020. I am pleased to announce the new members of the Servite Parent Forum are:
Chairpersons: Mrs Jackie and Mr Greg Gilchrist
Forum Leader for Learning: Mr Sam Wijethunga
Forum Leader for Community: Mrs Margaret Diodato
The Servite Parent Forum still requires a leader for the Ministry domain, please email your expressions of interest Mrs Kristine Moore.
Year 8 Morning and Afternoon Tea
Parents and teachers were treated to morning tea and afternoon tea as part of the Year 8 cooking course.
The delights offered included homemade sausage rolls, quiches, scones, cookies and cupcakes.
Students reflected our wonderful College value of Hospitality through their welcoming and professional service.
Thank you to the many parents that came along to sample the ‘goodies’ and to have a chat.
Master Plan
The “Big Top” cover over the walkway from the Alexis Building across to the Shanahan Building is scheduled for removal on Monday 2 December and the construction site will expand towards the basketball court.
Access to the Alexis Building will be from the lawn end.
All entry to the Shanahan Building will be via the Sarpi Building entrance in the middle of the basketball court or via the entrance near College Reception.
Access to College Reception, Student Reception, lower Shanahan Building lockers and Staff Room will be along Cape Street.
The Special Education Centre will operate out of AL01 in the Alexis Building until the end of Term.
We ask that extra care and patience be shown during this time. Regular updates will be provided to our extended Servite community throughout the construction process.
