Our Year 12 students welcomed well-known Western Australian author and teacher Ms Kate McCaffery to Servite College to present a seminar on Composing for the WACE. An award-winning author, Ms McCaffery has published teen ‘angst’ novels such as In Ecstasy, Saving Jazz and Beautiful Monster.
As an experienced author, Ms McCaffery shared her tips on creative writing and on what the examiners are looking for when marking this section of the English exam. Furthermore, students were encouraged to plan their written work with Purpose, Context and Audience in mind; developing a strong voice and point of view.
One of Ms McCaffery main tips: Be a well-researched writer!
Students are encouraged to be well versed in two topics of their choice so they can be flexible when it comes to writing imaginative, persuasive and interpretive texts in the WACE.
All of the above tips really are applicable to any creative writing task across all year groups.
We wish all our Year 12 English ATAR students all the very best for their upcoming Semester Two and WACE Exams.
