On Monday 31 August, the Year 9 Humanities students gathered to elect a political party. The election was the culmination of a two week program where students collaborated in groups to create and take part in a political campaign. Mr David Michael MLA, Member for Balcatta, joined us as we watched political party videos that had been created by our fellow students. We appreciated the opportunity to ask Mr Michael questions regarding state parliament and the role of MPs.
Our political party was called Servite Union. We emailed our state Premier Mr Mark McGowan to give him information based around our manifesto, core beliefs and values and to ask for his support in the upcoming student elections.
We were thrilled to see that Mr McGowan had sent a video reply following our email wishing all political parties the best of luck!
Overall, this assessment has allowed all parties to develop great communication skills which we can use to our advantage in the future.
We would also like to extend our deepest thanks to Mr David Michael and Mr Mark McGowan for their participation in our election activities.
