Student Leaders Forum
Last week in iServi I wrote at length on the importance of student leadership at our school. In introducing the 2021 Head Girl Anika Desai and Head Boy Jonathan Marchesi to our community, I highlighted the important contribution that our student leaders make to the ongoing growth and development of the College.
We saw this philosophy in action this week where all of our student leaders gathered together on Tuesday for a Student Leaders Forum. We value student voice at Servite and want to encourage student input into the life of the school. The forums enable our students to add their ideas to the strategic direction of the College.
Our 2020 forums have generated strong and positive input from students. During our forum last term, students finalised development of the Student Code of Conduct which has now been released across the College. The Code was designed by students for students and promotes them taking ownership of their own actions to support and respect those around them. The Student Code of Conduct is available here.
In this week’s forum, students explored the design of the eastern external section of the College. Participants were invited to contribute their ideas to a group discussion on how they would like to activate this section of the College. The forum was chaired by our current Head Boy Marco Acciari and Head Girl Demi Mammoliti, ably supported by Gianluca Bonfiglio.
Our soon-to-be opened western courtyard provided inspiration to students in developing concepts around a future space that would include areas for learning and collaboration, but importantly also allow opportunities for students to be active and mobile. A dynamic eastern courtyard will promote student wellness through connection, play and movement.
Our student leaders will now be invited to form a workgroup with representatives from each of the year levels to collate ideas and create a presentation for our architect Kon Michael from Swanbury Penglase. Mr Michael will then look to integrate elements into a concept design for the space which will allow us to develop the area over the coming years as part of our Master Plan.
We look forward to inviting input from our parents and caregivers next term at our regular strategic planning meeting into the concept design for the eastern courtyard area. We will provide details of this meeting in the ensuing weeks.
Master Plan Update
In a further Master Plan update, we are close to reopening the western part of our school to staff and students. We are working through the final stages of preparing the area for integration into College life.
Further to recent updates provided to families, we are looking forward to releasing details to our community soon about the refreshment of the lower floor Shanahan classrooms, the redevelopment of our student services building and the ongoing development of the Alexis building.
We are really excited at the ongoing development of the College campus into a contemporary and engaging space to enhance student learning outcomes. We are grateful to our community for their support during our building programs. We know that the end result of these projects and the positive impact these works will have for our students will be worth any short-term inconvenience.
