Year 11 Drama ATAR students have performed their take on the Athenian tragedy ‘Antigone’ by Sophocles as part of their unit on presentational and non-realist drama.

The first step in developing the play Antigone as part of my Year 11 ATAR classwork was combining two different scripts into one. After the script was created, I needed to plan what I wanted each cast member to do in each scene. I was inspired by another production of Antigone that focused on choreographing movement within the scene which made the play run smoothly. Watching this play made me want to incorporate similar ideas they used into our version.
We had around two weeks to rehearse before we had to present our performance and although we struggled a little with listening to one another, we made it work. I was really happy that I was able to experience what it was like to be a director even for a brief moment and for a small play.
