This Term, Year 8 Humanities and Social Sciences students have been completing their Economics and Business element of the course.
Students began the topic by looking at the characteristics of business ownership structures such as sole traders, partnerships and franchises. This was followed by an analysis of a variety of marketing concepts such as the target market and demographics. The topic finished with an examination of various consumer laws and illegal trading practices such as bait advertising.
One of the aims of the work completed this Term was to create more consumer awareness amongst the students.
Mr Colin Neilson
Teacher
The Year 8 Humanities and Social Sciences classes have been studying Economics. We have been further looking at different types of businesses and what laws protect us consumers. Through booklets with fun activities, textbook chapters and kahoots, as a class we finally know information such as the Competition and Consumer Act (2010) and the Consumer Guarantees with their exceptions. Students will be able to take this information that we know from school and most likely use it in our day to day lives. Probably when we’re older as well and have to pay for our own products and get refunds on our own.
