Just Start IT
Just Start IT is an 18 week program that is designed to teach teams of secondary students how to create a Technology Start Up. Just Start IT gives high school students the opportunity to work in a real life environment with experienced mentors who can help them take an idea from concept to product. Students collaborate to create a viable technology powered start-up, which enables them to build confidence, promotes critical thinking and problem solving, and encourages them to apply creativity to develop solutions. The program is project-based and students work with the latest tools and platforms as they develop their solutions to real-world challenges.
Ms Rachael Bunten
GATE Coordinator
In teams we have been researching various problems which affect our society, drilling down on a specific issue. Each group contributed a unique perspective to their own Start Up. Other schools across Western Australia are competing for the business to officially go to market with a $5000 starting price. The GATE class presented our final presentations on Friday 24 June, with a panel of judges consisting of many respected staff members, including our Principal, Ms Vicoli. Our experience with the Just Start IT program is appreciated by everyone involved.

Frog O’Clock
Our Start up business is called Frog O’Clock. It is an alarm clock app, but fear not, it’s not like every other app you have seen. This app has an alarm to wake you in the morning and on top of that, it gives you little challenges and riddles to solve when you wake up. The faster you complete the challenges, the more coins you get. Eventually over time, your coins will add up in the frog bank and you can cash them out into like gift vouchers for shopping, hair salons, food, etc.
Our app also has the ability to compete with others, by making teams with friends. This gives people another reason to wake up, as they want to compete and beat their friend in the next challenge.
Honestly, the experience was great! We spent the whole semester working on this project, and I’m happy with the result. We changed our idea many times and though there were some ups and downs, we got there in the end.

Vintago
Our team’s start-up was ‘Vintago’. Vintago is a project that helps eliminate fast fashion. It does this by allowing sellers to place their bespoke, reasonable clothing items that they don’t want to wear anymore on sale, while also providing buyers with good quality second hand clothes for a decent price.
This program has been an enlightening experience as we have learned many new things in relation to business. This has been challenging, but also a fun opportunity for everyone.

IViddie
IViddie is a platform that targets teens to further help them get employed and find the right job through video resumes. We allow the client to show their personality and capabilities better through video resumes, furthermore, allowing the business to hire the right person for the job.
Just Start IT was a whole new experience but overall, as a team, we really enjoyed it. Being able to make a whole start-up which will benefit people made us excited for what is to come.
