iServi News | 4 December 2020 | Term 4, Week 8
Our Year 9 cohort recently enjoyed their annual, two-day retreat. This retreat enables students to mindfully pause, reflect and grow. Students appreciated the mentorship of the Youth Ministry Team, and the staff at Integrity House, who guided them through two days of learning and discovery.
Year 9 at Servite explores the concept, ‘I Become’. It is through events such as these that students are given the space to take initiative and converse about pertinent world issues. One activity that encapsulates the concept of ‘becoming’ is that students were asked to anonymously post their wishes and prayers for the world. Some prayers and wishes of our Year 9 students are captured above, reflecting the wonderful people that they are becoming.
Mr Ryan Wiles
Director of Ministry
Recently, all the Year 9 girls boarded buses and headed to Integrity house in Osborne Park for a fun-filled day of learning about our identity, sexuality and God. We started off by playing a game as a whole group to prepare us for the day. We watched videos of what it means to be a women in today’s society, and discussed some of the challenges that this entails. It was an open and respectful environment where students shared their stories. Finally, we gathered in our friend groups to share a pizza lunch and reflect on the highlights of the day. The day ended with reflection and prayer, where we all lit a candle to symbolise a message to Jesus.
Overall, the day was exhilarating and inspiring. We all learned skills that will remain with us for a very long time. Thank you to Sister Chitra, Mr Crossley, YMT and Mr Wiles for organising an incredible retreat for us and we can’t wait for something similar next year.
