iServi News | 12 August 2022 | Term 3, Week 4
Our Visual Art and Design students in Year 10 are currently working on building skulls as part of their Art and Design course. We have been researching the Day of the Dead – a celebration held in Mexico honouring the souls of those who have passed. Typically the skulls are created to represent those who have passed, and the colour placed on them symbolises and celebrates their life. Once the skulls are completed the students will be decorating them with vibrant colours and patterns with and design that will accurately reflect this important Mexican tradition.
The students have really enjoyed working with clay, and although at times it has been challenging for them, they have been pleased with their results so far.
If you would like to see these ceramic pieces completed, they will be exhibited at our Visual Arts Exhibition which is being held in Week 9 of this Term in the ARC. Opening Night will be held on Tuesday 13 September.
