In our Year 9 Drama class, we have been making our own melodrama performances. We got into groups and had to choose stock characters to focus on. Either heroes, villains, sidekicks, or damsels in distress. Each group created their own unique scenario ranging from lost babies to police interrogations. Everyone has really showed their creative sides through this assessment and we can tell everybody has had lots of fun!

In our Drama class we are learning about melodrama. Melodrama is when you exaggerate a performance and make it funny. An example could be when the villain wants to marry the damsel in distress so he kidnaps her and the hero saves her in the end. In this semester’s assignment we are choosing two stock characters which could either be the villain, damsel in distress or hero. Our assignment is to put those characters into a police interrogation and explain what had happened from their point of view.
