Alumni Spotlight: Rebeka Petroska (Class of 2019)

Topic Alumni
Date March 13, 2025

One of my favourite memories from school was our Year 12 Retreat. It was one of the few times we were able to step away from the pressures of exams and be present with one another, sharing stories and reflecting on our journey. It felt symbolic, a chance to reflect on the years we had spent together while also looking ahead to the future. It was a time of connection, nostalgia and excitement for what was to come.

Another core memory from school for me were the athletic carnival days. There was something special about the energy on those days… the excitement, the friendly rivalry, and the way everyone came together to cheer each other on. It wasn’t just about the competition, it was about the support, the teamwork, and the unbreakable bond we shared as a school. Win or lose, those moments of pure school spirit will always stay with me – it’s a feeling you don’t quite realise you’ll miss until it’s gone, and one you’ll always long for beyond school.

I’m currently working as a reporter with 7NEWS, where I cover a wide range of stories. It’s an exciting and fast-paced career that challenges me every day. When I’m not chasing news, I make time for the things I love, like planning my next travel adventure and spending quality time with friends.
After school, I went to Curtin University, where I studied a double degree in Finance and Journalism. After picking up experience and volunteering throughout my studies, I was lucky enough to earn my current role as a reporter/journalist with 7NEWS Perth. I’ve been in the role for a year now, where I get to meet incredible people, report on important events, and constantly learn in a fast-moving industry.

Being able to cover local, national and international stories – whether it’s shedding light on pressing issues such as politics, crime and justice, or anything business, environment, and health is what makes me so passionate about what I do. I’m fortunate to be able to grow in a career I love and I’m excited to see where it takes me next.
