During my time at Servite, I would describe myself as an extroverted introvert. Quiet and shy by nature, this did not stop me from proudly holding positions on the Student Leadership Team and being a Priory Councillors of Saint Anthony’s. I will always be grateful to those teachers who encouraged me to reach my full potential and helped me realise that I was capable of whatever I put my mind to. This was the foundation that helped me reach where I am now.
Since graduating in 2003, I have been slowly finding my true path in life. My senior years at Servite were driven by my ambitions of getting into dental school. Being two places from the cut-off for acceptance was gut-wrenching but I stayed the course the following year and applied again. I failed again. Starting to believe that I was not meant to get into dentistry but not willing to give up on my dream just yet, I got in on my third attempt and received my Bachelor of Dental Science in 2010. It just goes to show that if you are truly passionate about something, a little perseverance will get you there!
Today, I work part-time as a general dentist at Toothbuds Paediatric Dentistry, where I am caring for the children of many Servites. I also hold a position at the Royal Flying Doctors Services Central Operations, providing care to many of our remote Indigenous communities.
Nothing makes me prouder than being the mother of my gorgeous 6-year old little man. Life was not without its challenges though. Following the end of my marriage in 2020, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021. God carried me through every challenge and with his grace, I am currently in remission. With this as the background to my canvas, my partner and I together with our 3 kids, seek to make the most of every moment we have.
Our goal is to have as many adventures as we can and make core memories along the way via camping, exploring the great outdoors, travelling and putting our energies into things we are truly passionate about. It’s all about the little things for us… the cuddles, the giggles and watching those night skies for shooting stars.
Which brings me to my favourite memories at Servite. Even though the major highlight would have to be reuniting with my family in San Francisco while on the US Exchange in Anaheim, it was the little things that formed core memories. Creating the paper mâché bull mascot with my bestie and Miss Humble in Year 8, NAS hockey in the rain with Miss Goodwin, Economics breakfast club with Miss O’Neill, Being chased by the swans at Lake Monger while practising for cross country and seeing a sky full of stars for the first time at our Year 12 Retreat are all lovely memories for me.
Ever proud to call myself a Servite and ever grateful for all the hands who helped shaped me.
