Celebrating Laudato & Reconciliation Week

Topic Ministry
Date June 3, 2025
During Weeks 4 and 5, Servite College came together to celebrate two significant events in our community calendar – Laudato Si’ Week and Reconciliation Week.
These moments of reflection and action offered our students the opportunity to consider how they can make a difference in caring for our common home and strengthening relationships with First Nations peoples.
As part of Laudato Si’ Week, students across various year groups and learning areas were invited to reflect on Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si’, and respond to its call to care for creation.
Each student contributed a leaf to our Tree of Commitment, symbolising a personal pledge to environmental sustainability and social justice. This initiative brought to life the message of the encyclical, encouraging us to hear and respond to both “the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor.”
Reconciliation Week then invited our community to explore the meaning and importance of reconciliation in Australia. Through classroom discussions and activities, students deepened their understanding of our shared history and considered their role in advancing reconciliation. They were encouraged to write their personal commitment or action for reconciliation on a leaf and add it to the Tree of Commitment – linking the two weeks through a shared theme of reflection, responsibility, and hope.
Together, our small actions become a powerful force for change. Caring for creation and walking the path of reconciliation are ongoing journeys, ones we take together, as a united and compassionate community.
