YEAR 10 OUTDOOR EDUCATION | CANOEING CAMP

Topic Learning
Date May 28, 2025

The Year 10 (Year Course) Outdoor Education program recently embarked on a 3-day, 2-night camp at Chapman Pool, Warner Glen, WA which is situated on the Gurbillup Buerle (Noongar name for The Blackwood River).

The program offered a unique opportunity to develop resilience and teamwork while immersed in nature.

Students learned essential canoeing skills, including assertive communication, paddle strokes, steering, river characteristics and the must needed water safety and risk assessment skills when working on and/ or near the water. Mornings were spent building fires to defrost the numbness from the below 0’C temperatures each group experienced during the night.

Students are to be commended on their meal planning and cooking skills, with amazing meals on display each night. The canoeing program not only strengthened their outdoor skills but also fostered personal growth, respect for Noongar Boodja and a deep connection and appreciation for the natural world.

📸Thank you to our student Daniel, for taking some fantastic photos and to Miss Strawhorn for the drone photos and amazing drone video which you can view here.
