Year 10 Dance Excursion

Topic Community
Date October 13, 2023

On Friday 13th October, the students from Year 10 Dance attended the school matinee performance of ‘ARCHITECT OF THE INVISIBLE’, BY Co3 – The Contemporary Dance Company of Western Australia. ARCHITECT OF THE INVISIBLE, devised and directed by international multi award-winning dance maker Raewyn Hill, explores a realm where movement becomes poetry, where the ethereal meets the earthly, and where the timeless words of Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’ come to life in breathtaking movement and imagery, of the journey through ‘inferno, purgatorio and paradiso’. The narrative, inspired by Dante’s iconic text, is tied to the concept of an infinite journey and investigates what drives a person to push beyond their perceived physical limits to accomplish the remarkable. “ARCHITECT OF THE INVISIBLE is a celebration of the human spirit, a testament to our capacity for both darkness and light, and a reminder of the transformative power of art.”

This year, students in Year 10 Dance have been exposed to many different dance styles and genres, including contemporary dance. The students greatly benefitted from being able to view this performance, especially by having the chance to experience a live dance piece in the contemporary dance genre. Students were also able to gain an understanding of the components of production and understanding dance as entertainment especially in Australia.

Year 10 students Eva, Arrianna & Tahlia said that the performance was “unique and different to anything they had seen before” and “really creative and emotional” to watch. Students were particularly blown away by the stage/set which comprised of a full set of stairs that dancers scaled and danced on throughout the entire performance.
