In Week 3 this term, our Year 11 ATAR Geography students embarked on an exciting and enriching fieldwork camp at the Monte Senario Campus in Nannup. The camp formed a key part of their Unit 1 Depth Study on Natural Hazards, with a particular focus on bushfires.
Over the three days, students investigated the causes and characteristics of bushfires in the local region through hands-on fieldwork and mapping activities. A highlight of the camp was a visit from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES), who ran an interactive session where students explored bushfire response strategies using VR technology, toured a real fire truck, and even had the opportunity to operate the hoses.
This immersive experience not only brought classroom concepts to life but also deepened students’ understanding of the natural hazard landscape in Western Australia.
