As part of our ongoing commitment to student wellbeing, safety and maintaining high standards in presentation, I would like to provide an update regarding the College sports hoodie.
In recent years, a number of concerns have emerged regarding the use of this item. These include safeguarding considerations, following an incident in another local school where visibility and identification were compromised by the use of hoods. As a result, students have previously been directed not to wear the hood component at any time.
In addition, we have observed a growing trend of students purchasing hoodies in oversized fits that do not align with our expectations for appropriate and respectful presentation. There have also been instances where the hoodie has been worn outside of the prescribed sports uniform, which is not in accordance with our Uniform Guidelines.
After careful consideration, and in consultation with College leadership and student leaders, the decision has been made to discontinue the hoodie as part of the College uniform. It will be replaced with a new quarter-zip sports top, which better reflects our expectations for safety, functionality and presentation.
While uniform changes would typically involve a longer transition period, the safeguarding considerations necessitate an accelerated timeline. As such, the hoodie will no longer be permitted as part of the College uniform from the beginning of 2027.
We acknowledge that there have been delays in the arrival of the new sports top. To support families during this transition, hoodies will remain available for purchase in 2026 at a significantly reduced price, with the understanding that they may only be worn during this year. Students are reminded that hoodies must not be worn with the hood up at any time and must be correctly fitted, with the length sitting appropriately at the hip.
Families who have purchased a hoodie at full price on or after 31 October 2025 may present proof of purchase at the Uniform Shop to receive a discount on the item.
