Alumni Spotlight: Richard Garcia (Class of 1998)

Topic Alumni
Date June 25, 2025

I would have graduated from Servite in 1998, but I left a year early to go and play football in England for West Ham United.

I have many fond memories from my time at Servite one of these is of the sport program that was called “Canons”. This was a program that recognised and awarded elite athletics – many students aspired to be part of the “Canons”. I have made lifelong friends from my school days, and I also met my wife Janelle at school as she is also a Servite Alumni.

After my footballing career as a player ended in 2015, I went into coaching full-time and I am currently now coaching part-time with the Australian U/20 team, which recently won the Asian Cup in China and will be heading to Chile in September for the U/20 FIFA World Cup.

When I am not coaching, I sell real estate for The Agency real estate group which is something that I really enjoy. With what little spare time I have, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends or travelling to places that do not involve work.

Life has taken me around the world with many wonderful experiences. I have represented my country at the highest level in football at the World Cup as well as played in the English Premier League for both West Ham United and Hull City.

I have also had the honour of playing, captaining and coaching my hometown club in Perth Glory. And have been lucky enough to have a wonderful family that have supported me and continues to support the travel filled life that I live.
