From The Principal: Midterm Term 1 2025

Topic Community
Date March 12, 2025
We are well into the first half of term 1, and what a fantastic start it has been! Our community is thriving, and with an almost full cohort in 2025, we are delighted to have welcomed our new Year 7 students, as well as many new students across other year groups. It has been wonderful to see them settling in and becoming part of the Servite family.

A Strong Start for Year 12s

We began the year with the highly anticipated Year 12 Ball, and it was an incredible evening! Our students looked amazing, represented their school with pride, and had a fantastic night celebrating this special milestone. This event marked the beginning of a significant year for our senior students, and they have already been involved in several memorable activities. One standout moment was the Long Table Lunch, an event raising awareness for teens with cancer. We are so proud of how our Year 12s have embraced the challenges and opportunities of their final year, showing commitment and enthusiasm in all they do.

Exciting Events Across the College

It has been a busy and exciting term with many events shaping the student experience. Some key highlights include:

  • The Whole School Swimming Carnival, where students displayed incredible team spirit and swimming ability.
  • The Year 7 Camp, which provided an opportunity for our newest students to bond, develop leadership skills, and immerse themselves in the Servite community.
  • The Nannup Music Festival Camp, which saw our Music and Media students take part in an inspiring and creative learning experience.
  • Leadership Days for all student leaders, where they engaged in development activities and embraced their roles within the school.
  • Ash Wednesday Liturgies, marking the beginning of Lent and encouraging reflection and spiritual growth.

These events are just a snapshot of the wonderful opportunities available to our students, helping them develop in all aspects of their education and personal growth.

Liverpool Academy – Australia’s Largest!

We are immensely proud to have launched the new Liverpool Academy Program this year. Even more exciting is that we can now officially say we are home to the largest Liverpool FC Academy in Australia! Our students have embraced this world-class program with enthusiasm, and we look forward to seeing them continue to develop their skills under the guidance of expert coaches.

NAPLAN – A Balanced Approach

With NAPLAN testing approaching, we encourage students to feel relaxed and confident. These assessments are just one measure taken on a single day, and while they are important, they do not define a student’s learning journey. What truly matters is the effort and growth they demonstrate every day in their learning. We urge all students to approach these tests with a positive mindset, knowing that their best effort is always enough.

College Masterplan and New Website

Our College Masterplan continues to progress well, and we hope all families have received the recent email outlining the exciting developments ahead. For those who may have missed it, please find information on the latest updates here.

You may also have noticed that we have launched a brand-new College website! This upgrade improves functionality, making it easier to navigate and ensuring a smoother experience across all devices. We hope this will enhance communication and accessibility for our entire community.

Social Media Awareness

At our Parent Information Nights, I spoke about the increasing impact of social media on teenagers. While technology offers many benefits, we must also be aware of the challenges it can present. Overuse and excessive investment in social media can lead to issues such as reduced self-esteem, anxiety, and distraction from important responsibilities. We encourage parents to monitor their child’s social media use, have open conversations about online safety, and support a healthy balance between online and offline activities.

School Photos – Preparing for 2025

We appreciate the support of parents as we implement changes to our school photo process. After identifying several areas for improvement in 2024, we are excited to introduce a new photographer and a refined system for capturing and organising student photos in 2025. It is crucial that students adhere to uniform requirements on photo day. Over the coming weeks, we will be speaking to students about presentation expectations, including appropriate haircuts, makeup, jewellery, and piercings. We ask parents to help us ensure that all students meet these guidelines so that we can capture high-quality school photos next year.

Upcoming Events to Keep an Eye On

We have a number of exciting events coming up in the school calendar:

  • Our musical, School of Rock, is well underway, with rehearsals in full swing. We can’t wait to see our talented students shine on stage.
  • The Community Quiz Night in Term 2, a fantastic opportunity for families to come together and have fun.
  • Year 12 Retreats, offering a meaningful time for reflection and growth.
  • The Inter-Priory Cross Country Carnival, where students will showcase their athletic ability and school spirit.
  • ACC and NAS sporting events, where our teams will represent Servite with pride.
  • Crocs and Socks for Caritas, a fun and meaningful initiative supporting those in need.
  • The Student Italy Language and Culture Tour, an incredible opportunity for cultural immersion and learning.

So many incredible community events and student opportunities are on the horizon, and we look forward to seeing our students make the most of them!

Canteen Menu

This year we are excited to introduce a brand new canteen menu featuring delicious daily specials. Explore the full menu here.

The Season of Lent and the Importance of Easter

As we journey through the season of Lent, we are reminded of its significance as a time of reflection, prayer, and renewal. Lent calls us to pause and prepare our hearts for the most important time in the Christian calendar—Easter. This sacred season encourages us to consider our actions, strengthen our faith, and embrace opportunities for kindness and service. As we move towards Easter, we reflect on the sacrifice and love of Christ, drawing inspiration to live with compassion and hope in our daily lives.

Thank You

Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in the Servite community. It has been a rewarding start to the term, and we look forward to many more exciting opportunities ahead.
